The San Francisco Giants have dealt infielder Eduardo Nuñez to the Boston Red Sox, the team has announced.

Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal and USA Today's Bob Nightengale first reported the news Tuesday night.

Nuñez was pulled from the game against Pittsburgh in the bottom of the 5th inning for a pinch-hitter. He could be seen on the NBC Sports Bay Area broadcast hugging teammates as he left the Giants' dugout.

The Giants will acquire minor league pitchers Shaun Anderson and Gregory Santos in the trade, the team announced on Twitter.

Nuñez was batting .307 entering Tuesday before going 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored against the Pirates.

He's spent the bulk of 2017 playing third base, with some time in the outfield and at shortstop, and his contract expires at the end of the season.
