Gimenez moved up to the Chicago Cubs

The former Nevada catcher is back in the big leagues.

Former Nevada baseball catcher Chris Gimenez was called up to the Cubs on Saturday from Triple A Iowa.

Gimenez had been in Iowa all season. The Cubs had to make the decision to either move him up to Chicago, or let him go due to a veteran's opt-out clause in his contract that was coming up soon. The opt-out clause stated that if Gimenez wasn't moved up to Chicago by a certain date in the season then he could become a free agent.

Gimenez will be the back up catcher for the Cubs.
