Three men arrested for leaving threatening note demanding $40,000
Three men are behind bars after attempting to extort thousands of dollars from a Sun Valley resident, according to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.
Spokesman Bob Harmon says the sheriff's office was initially contacted by the victim on February 13. The resident reported his residence on El Rancho Drive had been burglarized in late January when several items were stolen.
He further reported on February 13 that his brother located an envelop left at the front door of the home with a letter threatening to kill the victim's family if $40,000 in cash was not left in the envelop by 10 p.m. on Wednesday night.
Detectives setup a sting operation on Wednesday, February 14. Several suspects arrived at the residence and removed the envelope. The male suspects ran when confronted by law enforcement but were quickly located by detectives.
Authorities arrested Brian Jose Ojeda, 21, Raul E Cruz-Bonilla, 19, and Lorenzo Trujillo, 20, on charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and resisting a public officer.
