Reno Police arrest armed carjacking suspect
A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of pointing a gun at a woman and then taking her car on Monday, May 14.
According to Reno Police, Eric Romero-Labatto was arrested after a police pursuit involving an armed carjacking ended in a crash near the intersection of Wedekind Road and Clear Acre Lane in Reno.
Lt. William Rulla with the Reno Police Department says a woman was carjacked at gunpoint at a car wash near Sutro Street and Wedekind Road shortly before 7 p.m.
According to police, Romero-Labatto pointed a semi-automatic handgun at the woman's face and demanded her car.
He was able to get away in a GMC Yukon with her purse inside.
Police located the victim's vehicle later in the evening in the area of Highland and Valley roads, just east of the university.
Officers attempted to make a traffic stop when the suspect failed to yield ensuing a chase.
A PIT maneuver was authorized by police, however, the suspect and stolen vehicle came to rest after crashing.
The weapon used in the robbery has been recovered by police.
Romero-Labatto was evaluated by paramedics on scene and then transported to an area hospital for a secondary evaluation. The extent of his injuries are unknown.
He was then booked into the Washoe County Jail.
