One person suffers burns, pet dies in overnight structure fire in Reno
An investigation is underway after an overnight structure fire in Reno burned one person, sent a firefighter to the hospital and killed a pet.
Reno Fire officials say the fire broke out at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning on the 200 block of Pine Street.
On arrival, firefighters found a quarter of the brick duplex was involved in the fire. They evacuated residents to safety and knocked down the fire in the living room, but say the heavy fire load inside presented challenges to fire crews who worked to extinguish fire in the walls and attic until 6:30 a.m.
One person suffered burn injuries and was treated on scene before being taken to the hospital. Reno Fire officials add one firefighter was taken to the hospital for evaluation and one pet died on scene.
Temporary shelter is being provided to the displaced residents.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
