Several fire agencies from around the region are sending firefighters to help battle the blazes raging in Southern California.

Beth Kenna, spokeswoman for the North Tahoe Fire Protection District, said in a statement that more than 15 engines, making up three strike teams, have been deployed from the Tahoe Basin Operational Area to the Thomas Fire in Ventura County, California.

The Tahoe Basin Operational Area is made of agencies from California and Nevada, including those for Tahoe Douglas, North Tahoe, Truckee Meadows, Carson City and Sparks.

A fourth strike team was also called to help with an additional fire burning in Sothern California, Kenna said, though that fire was not specified.

The Thomas Fire began Monday night and had burned an estimated 50,000 acres by Tuesday afternoon, according to Cal Fire, forcing thousands of evacuations and a state of emergency.
