Local student raises donations for Hurricane Harvey victims
A local first grader who feels for the struggling Hurricane Harvey victims in Texas has decided to help out.
Six-year-old Delilah Marin-Rodriguez made a donation box to collect money from classmates at Lena Juniper Elementary School in Sparks.
Her teacher said the entire school started chipping in, including parents. The box quickly filled up, and Delilah says plans to make another one.
Erin Hess, her teacher, said she's proud of Delilah's compassion and hopes it teaches a valuable lesson in generosity.
The amount of money collected hasn't been counted yet, and donations are still pouring in. Delilah said she wants to send the money to Texas sometime next week.
