Lassen National Forest investigating burglary of USFS radio shop
Federal forest officials are asking for the public's help to find more than $60,000 worth of electronics stolen from a Forest Service radio shop in Susanville.
According to a statement from the Lassen National Forest, the burglary occurred in the early morning hours on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the shop on Fifth Street.
The thieves stole radios, computers and other equipment used by firefighters for fire suppression and other public safety issues in the forest.
Ted McArthur, acting Lassen National Forest supervisor, said in a statement the theft could compromise the safety of fire crews because some firefighters might not be issued radios.
The National Forest is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information on the burglary. Anyone with information is asked to contact Patrol Captain Adam Hill or Special Agent Tony Magarrell at (530) 252-6400.
