RENO, Nev. (KRNV) — 19-year-old Kamahri Berreman has been sentenced to an aggregate 40 years in prison in connection to a 2022 murder.
In March 2022, Reno police responded to a report of a deadly shooting at a convenience store. The victim, 28-year-old Eliazer Obed was found unresponsive at the scene. Another victim was a young woman who was previously at a house party on Plumas Street when a separate shooting occurred at that party. She then left the party and went to the convenience store where she was shot in the shoulder and later treated at Renown for the gunshot wound.
During the investigation, it was determined that Berreman drove two gang members to the area of the convenience stores to target the rival gang from the house party earlier that night. The two gangs are known to have a violent history and have had retaliatory shootings in the past.
While at the convenience store, members of the rival gang were parked at a gas station. Three subjects, including Berreman, opened fire on the victim group through the fence. Berreman and his accomplices ran away. Obed was an innocent bystander and was killed during the gunfire.
Berreman was found the next day coming out of his apartment when he attempted to flee law enforcement on foot before eventually being caught. Berreman later admitted to driving to the convenience store, unloading an entire magazine and fleeing the scene.
Berreman was ultimately pled guilty to second degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon and was sentenced to 40 years in prison with parole eligibility after 15 years.
