Reno City Councilmember Naomi Duerr and dozens of volunteers planted trees at Manzanita Park on Saturday, May 19, 2018.

The City partnered with Rotary Club of Reno Centennial Sunset, which sponsored $4,000 for the purchase of trees for this and other tree-planting projects.

Volunteers planned on planting a total of 36 trees at Manzanita Park, representing 25 different species.

The Reno Nevada Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints provided volunteers.

“We would like to thank the LDS and Rotary for working with us to bring desperately needed canopy to this neighborhood in Ward 2,” Reno City Councilmember Naomi Duerr said. “New trees will provide cooling shade to park users, along with aesthetic beauty, stormwater retention and wind buffering.”

Members of the City of Reno Urban Forestry Commission were also present to offer instruction on proper tree-planting techniques.
