One person was killed and one injured in a suspected DUI crash on U.S. Highway 395 on Thursday, according to California Highway Patrol.

Officers responded to a head-on crash at about 5:40 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9, on U.S. 395 south of State Route 89.

CHP reports a black Ford F-150 pickup truck was driving north on 395, while a green Dodge Dakota pickup was driving south.

The Ford pickup failed to take a right-hand curve and crossed over the yellow line, hitting the Dodge pickup head-on, according to CHP.

The driver of the Dodge, identified as Christopher Harper of Coleville, California, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford, identified as Amelia Markarian of Nixon, Nevada, was transported via Care Flight to Renown in Reno.

CHP says officers suspect Markarian was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, and that she has been placed under arrest. The crash remains under investigation.
