The Wedekind Park fire in Sparks contained at 29-acres

Arcing power lines spark 29-acre brush fire, leaving thousands without power in Sparks

Crews have responded to a 29-acre brush fire that was sparked by arcing power lines in the area of Pyramid Highway and Disc Drive in Sparks.

According to the Sparks Fire Department the fire has been knocked down and crews are conducting mop-up procedures.

As of 9:43 p.m. the Wedekind Park fire is fully contained and no structures were threatened.



Fire crews from Sparks, Reno, Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, and BLM were on scene.

Representatives from Nevada Energy and Sparks Police Department were also on scene.

The fire started on BLM land.


According to the NV Energy Outage Center, more than 5,700 customers were without power in the area due to damaged equipment.

Full power restoration occurred at around 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11.
