AACT graduate wins new car for perfect attendance

A graduating senior from the Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology in Reno was awarded a brand-new car on Saturday after achieving perfect attendance.

Aurelio Cortes won a 2016 Honda Fit of his choice for not missing a day of school. He was one of more than 175 eligible students who were invited to attend the event where the winning name was drawn, according to an event news release.

Cortes told News 4-Fox 11 that he was excited and overwhelmed to receive the car. He plans to attend the University of Nevada, Reno.

This is the eighth consecutive year that Bill Pearce Courtesy Honda awards a new car to a graduating senior from Washoe County schools who attained perfect attendance, the statement read.

"This is a long-standing tradition with our dealership, and we are proud to be part of the community that celebrates and supports our high school students," said Sandy Raffealli, owner of Bill Pearce Courtesy Honda.
