$7.5 million granted to Carson City for South Carson Street Complete Streets Project
CARSON CITY, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) -- On Wednesday morning, Elaine Chao, secretary of the United States Department of Transportation, announced that it recently awarded Carson City a $7.5 million Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery Grant, also known as a TIGER grant.
The grant will be used to complete the South Carson Street Complete Streets Project that requires streets to be planned, designed, operated and maintained in a manner that allows for convenience and access for users of all ages and abilities, and not just those driving cars.
It was developed to make sure that pedestrians, bike riders and people taking public transportation are safe while also enhancing commercial and business access.
Back in September 2016, Carson City transportation planners gathered the public to get feedback regarding the future of south Carson Street, and while people agreed that cars should have priority on that street, but they also agreed that it's not walking and bike-friendly.
