SPARKS, Nev. — The city of Sparks will celebrate the completion of the North Truckee Drain Realignment Project this Thursday, June 21.
It will be held on the bike path above East Larkin Circle at 9:00 a.m.
The project, south of Interstate 80 from Sparks Blvd. to East Larkin Circle, constructed a series of underground concrete culvert boxes to transport water from the North Truckee Drain to the Truckee River.
This successfully realigns the North Truckee Drain further downstream of the Truckee River to help reduce flooding in the Sparks industrial area.
The $40 million, multi-phase project, designed by HDR and constructed by Q&D Construction.
Ninety percent of funding for the project was paid for by current Sparks' residents and businesses through a Sewer Enterprise Fund enacted by the city of Sparks in 2008.
Additional funding of $4.75 million was provided by the Truckee River Flood Authority.
