The west parking lot of the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa will be looking a lot more colorful as artists compete in the Reno Chalk Art Festival.

The inaugural Artown event is being held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday, July 9, and Sunday, July 10.

Organizers said amateur and professional artists will make their mark by transforming 9x12-foot parking spaces into works of art.

The top chalk artists will be recognized during an awards ceremony on Sunday at 5 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for Best of Show, Best Reproduction of a Master's Work, Best Use of Color, Best 3D and Artists' Choice, according to an event news release.

The community is invited to enjoy the whimsical chalk art, local food trucks and live entertainment.
