Sky Vision captures mudslide damage on I-80 westbound at Baxter
On Wednesday, Feb. 15, Interstate 80 westbound closed to all vehicles at State Route 20, according to California Highway Patrol-Truckee.
Mudslides have afflicted the roadway since the weekend, and more slides are expected despite current mitigation efforts.
Caltrans officials said they anticipate the road reopening sometime Wednesday night when it is deemed safe again.
A geologist assessed the hillside Wednesday, Caltrans officials said. The goal is to clear enough mud and debris from the hillside that they won't have to work there again this winter.
Caltrans would likely install landslide nets there this summer. That work typically results in single-lane closures.
