Cardoza sentenced to life in prison

CARSON CITY, Nev. -- The man accused of killing a 19-year-old in 2013 received his sentence on Wednesday.

Leonardo Cardoza was found guilty in March of first-degree murder in the death of Desiree Bragg. Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said Cardoza was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole, with a potential extended sentence after 20 years.

In January 2013, Cardoza followed Bragg and her fiancee to her mother's house, and slammed his van into her, pinning her between the vehicle and the house. Bragg later died from her injuries.

According to the judge, Cardoza must must serve at least 20 years before he can be eligible for parole.
