Supreme Court allows lawyers to give medical marijuana advice

CARSON CITY, Nev. -- Nevada lawyers are now allowed to give legal advice on medicinal marijuana.

On Wednesday, the Nevada Supreme Court amended the state's rules of professional conduct for lawyers to allow them to counsel clients on the states medical marijuana laws. The decision among the six-member panel was unanimous.

The new comment states that "a lawyer may counsel a client regarding the validity, scope and meaning of Nevada constitution Article 4, Section 38." Article 4, Section 38 is the state's medicinal marijuana law.

"The bar is gratified by the courts appreciation of the urgency," said State Bar President Alan Lefebvre. "Our public officials will welcome the assistance of their highly competent and ethical public lawyers."
