School police investigating school threat at Pine Middle School

RENO, Nev.  -Today is the 8th anniversary of the shooting at Pine Middle School. That's when a student brought a gun to school and injured two students.

The same school just added new rules after a student threatened violence in graffiti on a bathroom wall last week.  Washoe County School District Police say they officially notified parents yesterday to clarify any rumors.

It did occur last week, but we didn't want to put any messages out there until weve had a chance really to investigate it," said Chief Mike Mieras. "And find out is there any validity to what was being said.

Everything was quiet today at Pine Middle School, but students are being required to leave backpacks in their lockers and sign in and out of all classes. The school also increased security.

Parents we spoke to tell us they thought the school did a good job telling them about the incident, even though they were officially notified the week after. Many say they still feel comfortable sending their students to school.

I trust the school. I honestly would take their reaction to whats going on," said parent Heather Reimer. "I also take what my daughter says into consideration. She told me before I heard from the school what was going on and she isn't sure what the big deal is.

School police are continuing to investigate the incident. And once suspects are identified they could face criminal charges.
