4 parades planned for Nevada's 150th birthday

CARSON CITY, Nev.  (AP) - They say everyone loves a parade, and Nevada wants to ensure everyone has a chance to join the fun in celebrating the state's 150th birthday.

Carson City is the traditional home of the annual Nevada Day Parade, generally held in late October.

This year in honor of the state's sesquicentennial, there will be four parades around the state.

Las Vegas will host the first Nevada Day parade on Friday, Oct. 31, the actual anniversary date of Nevada's statehood. The procession is scheduled to last about two hours and will feature 150 entries.

Also on that day, Elko will continue its own tradition of holding a Nevada Day parade, and Virginia City will host a parade that night.
Carson City's parade, with more than 200 entries, will be Saturday, Nov. 1.
