Corbett named a Burlsworth semi-finalist
RENO, Nev. – Senior offensive lineman Austin Corbett has been named one of 10 semifinalists for the Burlsworth Trophy, the selection committee announced today.
Corbett joins some elite company in the semifinalist list and is one of two to be selected from the Mountain West. The trophy honors the most outstanding football player who began his career as a walk-on after showing outstanding performance on the field. Corbett joined the Nevada football program as a walk-on before earning his scholarship and starting role with The Union. The trophy gets its name from Brandon Burlsworth, a former Arkansas offensive lineman who earned All-American honors after beginning his collegiate career as a walk-on.
Corbett is a longtime starter on the offensive line for the Wolf Pack and has put together a string of 45 consecutive starts dating back to the 2014 season. Corbett was named second team All-Mountain West as a junior after he paved the way for former running back James Butler to run for more than 1,000 yards for a second consecutive season and average 111.3 rushing yards per game, which ranked in the top 20 in the nation. A preseason All-Mountain West honoree, Corbett, who has many hours of community service under his belt, also has a strong GPA and has already earned his bachelor's degree in public health.
Fans will be allowed to vote for their favorite player via the “GREATER” fan vote beginning today, Nov. 7 at 12 p.m. PST. Fans are limited to one vote per day and voting for the semifinalist round will conclude on Nov. 12 at 10 p.m. PST.
