Tungsten Fire northeast of Fallon fully contained after burning 16,755 acres

A fire burning about 60 miles northeast of Fallon is 100 percent contained as of Sunday morning after burning 16,755 acres, according to the Bureau of Land Management.

The Tungsten Fire, burning in the Shoshone Meadows of the Clan Alpine Mountains, was first reported Sunday just before 3:30 p.m.

BLM says crews took extra precautions to protect structures and valued resources, including the Ormat geothermal plant and unoccupied residences in Dixie Valley, throughout the duration of the fire.

In addition, crews worked to ensure minimal loss to mule deer, desert bighorn sheep, and sage grouse habitat located in lower elevations surrounding the fire.

The fire was sparked by lightning, and 275 firefighters are took part in the response, according to the BLM.
