Teen suffers life-threatening injuries in UTV crash in Sun Valley
SUN VALLEY, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) —
The 17-year-old driver of a utility vehicle suffered life-threatening injuries when the UTV crashed Monday morning in Sun Valley, according to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.
In a statement released Tuesday, the sheriff's office said deputies responded to the off-highway crash just after 11:50 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15.
Authorities learned five juveniles were operating a four-seat Yamaha utility vehicle on a dirt portion of Chimney Drive, an area designated for off-highway vehicle use.
The driver attempted a left turn but lost control, and the UTV rolled over, according to the sheriff's office. Multiple people were thrown from the UTV, including the driver, who suffered life-threatening injuries.
Two others were taken to hospitals with minor injuries, the statement reads.
The sheriff's Major Accident Investigation Team responded to help patrol units, and the investigation is ongoing. Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors, and all of the remaining parties are cooperating.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Deputy Chad McKinnon at (775) 328-3350.
