Sparks police searching for missing 74-year-old man
SPARKS, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) —
Sparks police are asking for help to find a missing 74-year-old man.
Police say on May 9, 2017, Gary Poppinga was reported to be despondent over several personal matters and left his home in the early afternoon.
Police say Poppinga, who left his cell phone and while leaving the area on foot, took a "revolver type handgun" with him and made suicidal statements.
According to authorities, Poppinga stated that he liked to go to the "Lovelock" river in the past and that's where he would like to be when he died.
Police say as far as they know, there is no "Lovelock" river, but there are other rivers near by.
Poppinga is described as a 74-year-old man with grey hair and blue eyes. He's roughly 5 feet, 11 inches and 180 pounds.
