Second prescribed burn scheduled for Stampede Reservoir area
TRUCKEE, Calif. (News 4 & Fox 11) —
The U.S. Forest Service has scheduled another prescribed burn for an area near Stampede Reservoir on Friday, May 19.
Linda Ferguson, a district fuels specialist, said the Truckee Ranger District plans to burn 83 acres, starting at about 10 a.m.
The fire will only move forward if weather and fuel conditions are favorable, though smoke will likely be see along local highways and in the reservoir area.
Crews conducted a prescribed burn last Friday as well. That operation was planned for 80-120 acres near Stampede.
Fire experts say prescribed burns reduce the amount of forest fuels, which benefits firefighters and the community if a wildfire were to spark in the area.
