Options for new Spanish Springs middle school name narrowed down to three
SPARKS, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) —
The options for the name of a new Spanish Springs middle school have been narrowed down to three finalists.
The Washoe County School District's school naming committee announced Wednesday that Michael Landsberry, Debbie Smith and Sky Ranch are the finalists.
The Board of Trustees will meet on Dec. 12 to determine a name, with the school's groundbreaking scheduled for De. 14.
Michael Landsberry was a teacher at Sparks Middle School who was killed in 2013 trying to stop a student with a gun.
Debbie Smith was a Nevada state senator who lived in Sparks and represented District 13. She died of a brain tumor in February last year.
The planned middle school, located at 1000 Kiley Parkway, is scheduled to open in August 2019.
