Suspect arrested near McCarran & I-80 in NW Reno after fleeing traffic stop
RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) —
A suspect has been arrested in northwest Reno on Wednesday after fleeing a traffic stop, according to the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.
Heavy law enforcement activity has been reported Wednesday afternoon in a shopping center off McCarran Boulevard and Interstate 80 in northwest Reno.
Bob Harmon, a spokesman for the Washoe County Sheriff's Office, said officers tried to stop a suspect on Keystone Avenue, but the individual drove away.
The suspect made it to McCarran before fleeing on foot. Law enforcement officers were searching the area for the suspect, Harmon said, along with a RAVEN helicopter.
After about an hour, a deputy spotted the suspect hiding at the bottom of a ravine under some brush. That suspect, identified as Nathan Helmer-Martin, was taken into custody.
Helmer-Martin was wanted on a felony parole violation, according to Harmon. Reno Police and Nevada Highway Patrol assisted with the search.
