The Washoe County School District is reminding parents and guardians to get kids up to date on their immunizations before the start of the school year.

Starting with the 2017-18 school year, all Nevada students enrolling in 7th grade are required to receive a dose of the quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine, also known as MCV4 or MenACWY.

This vaccine protects against four types of bacteria that cause a meningococcal disease, including meningitis.

Immunize Nevada is hosting a community safety fair called Give Kids a Boost on Saturday, Aug. 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Neil Road Recreation Center.

Free health and safety services will be provided, including immunizations for children between 4 and 18 at low or no cost.
