21 flu-related deaths now reported in Washoe County
RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) —
Twenty-one flu-related deaths have been reported in Washoe County so far this influenza season, according to data from the Health District.
Data collected from Oct. 1 through Saturday, Feb. 17 shows a total of 4,562 lab-confirmed cases of flu in the county. None of the deaths reported have involved those under 18, one health official confirmed to News 4-Fox 11.
Of those cases, 451 have resulted in hospitalization, with 78 people requiring ICU treatment. Health officials say 183 of those who were hospitalized were vaccinated at least two weeks before the onset of illness.
The number of flu-related deaths is up from earlier this month when 19 deaths were reported.
Flu activity is still considered widespread in Nevada and 47 other states in the U.S.
