Reno Jazz Festival celebrates 55-year milestone
RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) —
The Reno Jazz Festival began on Thursday, celebrating its 55th year since its founding.
The festival started in the early 1960s, when John Carrico was hired as UNR's band director. He started what was then called the Reno Stage Band Festival.
The current Jazz Festival includes concerts, competitions and clinics.
Don Byron with The Collective were scheduled to perform on Thursday. Friday will feature The Bad Plus Joshua Redman, and Saturday will mark the festival showcase.
