First Summertime BioBlitz hosted at Idlewild Park

The first Summertime BioBlitz was held at Idlewild Park in Reno on Sunday, July 24, 2016. (Sinclair Broadcast Group)

Families learned all about the organisms that live at Reno’s Idlewild Park as part of Truckee Meadows Parks Foundations’ first Summertime BioBlitz on Sunday.

The free event, which was part of Artown, was held at the park’s California Building from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Organizers said the event consisted of walks and surveys throughout the park to collect information about the various plants and wildlife. Volunteers helped translate the data, and children had the chance to draw and interpret what they saw in nature.

Nevada Bugs and Butterflies, Nevada Native Plant Society, Museum of Natural History and the City of Reno Parks, Recreation, and Community Services were partners for this event.
